My Sister’s Child Inc.

At My Sister’s Child we are not just a program, we are a movement to empower the next generation. Based in Boston, we focus on workforce development and life skills through hands-on welding education, mentorship, and leadership growth for youth and young adults. We build real pathways that lead to real opportunity.

We serve young people who are often overlooked and underestimated. Through exposure, technical training, and career preparation, we guide them from curiosity to career. Our training introduces them to the world of welding and the skilled trades in a way that builds confidence and opens doors they never knew existed.

But we know it takes more than skill to succeed. That is why we offer wrap around support that helps each person grow from the inside out. We teach discipline, focus, personal responsibility, self belief, and resilience. We provide mentorship, career guidance, and a supportive environment where young people feel seen, heard and valued. They do not just learn how to work. They learn how to build a future.

My Sister’s Child creates growth, opportunity, and sustainability in our communities through training that leads to purpose, employment and long term success.

Maria Storms:
Founder & Youth Outreach Coordinator

Maria Storms is the founder of My Sister’s Child, a Boston based workforce training and opportunity program that focuses on welding, life skills and mentorship for underserved youth. She is a tradeswoman, a business owner and a leader who understands the barriers young people face because she has lived them herself. Maria built what she once needed: a place where real skills meet real support and real opportunity. She leads with strength, compassion and purpose, making sure every young person is seen, guided and prepared to succeed in work and in life. Her belief is simple. Our pipeline is a lifeline.

Jillisa Durant:
Program Manager & Youth Outreach Coordinator

With fifteen years of combined experience in human services and the skilled trades, Jillisa serves as the Project Manager and Youth Coordinator at My Sister’s Child. She spent nine years working with youth connected to the Department of Children and Families, including young people facing mental health challenges and difficult life transitions. She also brings six years of field experience as a proud member of Boston Local 7 Ironworkers, where she discovered her passion for welding and steel work. Jillisa is driven by a commitment to connect guidance with opportunity. She uses mentorship and hands on training to introduce youth in Boston to the trades and the power of building something real. Her purpose is to help young people grow in confidence, direction and belief in what is possible for their lives.
